Death of 17-year-old boy in car park sparks police investigation

A 17-year-old boy has died following an incident in a car park.

Police cordoned off the area at Motherwell's Civic Centre - which houses North Lanarkshire Council HQ -  around 9.30am today.

The lad's death remains "unexplained" and an investigation has been launched.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We can confirm a 17-year-old man was found seriously injured in a car park near Motherwell Civic Centre shortly after 9.30am on Sunday, 12 July.

"He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. His next of kin are aware.

"His death is being treated as unexplained. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course."
