Death in Paradise set for one-off special feature length return this Christmas

Death in Paradise fans will be able to soak up some winter sun this Christmas with the first festive special from the hit crime drama.

The BBC show, set on the fictional island of Saint Marie, is celebrating its 10th anniversary year in thrilling style.

A 90-minute special will feature the one-off return of Officer Dwayne Myers, played by Danny John-Jules, and a guest appearance from Juliet Stevenson.

Danny, 60, who starred in seven series, said: “It’s always a pleasure going back to the Caribbean.

“After four years away, fitting back into the fold should be seamless as I know the new lead cast members.

“I look forward to bringing Dwayne and this 10th anniversary special script to life.” The episode will feature Ralf Little as DI Neville Parker and action that stretches from grey London to exotic Saint Marie.

Executive producer Tim Key said: “We’ve been talking about a Christmas episode for years so we’re beyond excited to be finally making one and to be working with Danny again.

“We can’t think of a better place to spend Christmas than in Saint Marie.” Tommy Bulfin, commissioning editor for BBC Drama, said: “We are delighted Death in Paradise will be bringing the sunshine to the festive schedule.”

The drama pulls in eight million viewers and series 11 starts in January.

The Christmas storyline will see Detective Sergeant Florence Cassell (Joséphine Jobert) leave the island to spend Christmas with her family, so the team welcome Dwayne (Danny John-Jules) with open arms to help solve a murder case.

Dwayne comes to realise he’s not only met Officer Marlon Pryce (Tahj Miles) before, but he once arrested him.

It remains to be seen how the team of old and new faces come together to unravel ta murderous crime.

Meanwhile, after vexed fans were left hanging in suspense after the cliff-hanger ending of series ten earlier this year, they could also discover whether Neville told Florence about his feelings for her?

Viewers have watched Neville and Florence’s relationship develop over the course of series ten and all will be revealed in the Christmas special with “more surprises to come” in series eleven.

Filming for the show takes place on the island of Guadeloupe and whilst series eleven has yet to be finished and won't be on screen until 2022, a twelfth series has also already been commissioned because of its success.
