Death in Paradise's Josephine Jobert responds as fans beg her to be next inspector

Death In Paradise star Josephine Jobert has responded to claims she could be the next Detective Inspector.

Josephine played Florence Cassell in the BBC One detective drama for several years, with fans hopeful she might one day return to the show. Neville Parker, played by Ralf Little, is currently the DI leading the team on the island of Saint Marie.

As filming begins for the new series, the show's account posted a clip from behind the scenes and Josephine was quick to reply to the post with four flame emojis, sparking fans' imaginations about her potential return to the show for good.

"Is this a sign that you’ll be back?" one eager fan asked, as another commented: "She needs to return as the next Detective Inspector. It’s time we see a female inspector and there is no one better than Florence."

When one viewer sent a message to Josephine to ask if that meant she would be back, she replied: "Ahah there’s an article like that every time a new series is being filmed. And I would be curious to know why fans think Florence would return."

Josephine previously teased she could be heading for the BBC spin-off, Beyond Paradise.

In an Instagram Q&A, she revealed: "It's not officially planned yet, but it's a possibility that we discussed with the producer some time ago. So we’ll see if that will happen. But I would love to anyway. It would be a very nice wink."

Beyond Paradise has been renewed for a second series and a Christmas special, with Sally Bretton also returning as Martha, Zahra Ahmadi as DS Esther Williams, Dylan Llewellyn as PC Kelby Hartford and Felicity Montagu as office support Margo Martins.

Tim Key, Executive Producer of Red Planet Pictures, commented: "We’ve been blown away by the audience response to the show and are so happy that people have taken it to their hearts. We can’t wait to get our amazing cast back together to continue the story – and to be able to pay a visit to Shipton Abbott at Christmas is even better."

Death In Paradise is also back for two new series as well as two Christmas specials so there's certainly time for Florence Cassell to make her return to lead the police team on the fictional island of Saint Marie.
