Death in Edinburgh street sees police cordon off area

Police raced to an Edinburgh street following the tragic death of a man.

Emergency services were called at around 9.50am on Sunday following reports that a member of the public had taken unwell.

Cops and paramedics soon arrived at Wellington Place in the Leith area of the capital but the man was pronounced dead a short time later.

A heavy police presence remains in the area with a large cordon in place.

Police Scotland confirmed the heartbreaking news but said that his death is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesman said: “Police were called around 9.50am on Sunday, 18 October, 2020 following the report of a man taking unwell on Wellington Place, Edinburgh.

​”Emergency services attended and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

​”The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
