A MAN who died at Nelson Bay on a track near the marina is yet to be identified, police said.

Officers are seeking public help to find the man's family after he was found unconscious on Bridie Track, which runs between the marina and Dutchies beach, about 12.45pm on Wednesday.

"Members of the public performed CPR until emergency services arrived," police said in a statement.

"Despite efforts to resuscitate him, the man died at the scene."

The man's death is not considered suspicious, police said, but investigators have been unable to find clues to reach out to his family.

The man was described as caucasian, aged between 35 and 45 and between 170 and 175 centimetres tall.

He had a solid build with dark brown, greying hair.

Police said he was wearing an 'Urban Supply' black T-shirt, 'Mossimo' black shorts with white trims, grey socks, and size blue sneakers.

Investigators released an image of his shoes on Thursday in the hopes they could lead to a breakthrough.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
