Death at Dewsbury train station causes cancellations and delays

A tragedy at Dewsbury train station has severely disrupted services between Leeds and Manchester.

Train lines are blocked between Leeds and Huddersfield after a person died at Dewsbury this morning (Friday).

British Transport Police were called to the station, off the Dewsbury Ring Road, just before 10.30am following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

Paramedics also attended but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

British Transport Police said officers were now working to identify them.

National Rail has warned that train services between Leeds and Manchester Victoria will be disrupted until approximately 1.30pm, affecting Transpennine Express and Norther trains.

A spokeswoman said:"Officers were called to Dewsbury station at 10.25am after reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics are also on scene however a person has sadly been pronounced dead.

“Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family.

“A file will be prepared for the coroner."
