Dear Jeremy Hunt ... what would you tell the health secretary to do for the NHS?

Jeremy Hunt has been reappointed health secretary in the new Conservative government. We want you to tell him what you would like him to focus on for the NHS over the next five years.

In its election manifesto, the party pledged to increase funding for the NHS to £8bn a year by 2020; increase funding for mental health care; improve access to GPs with a seven-day service; continue to integrate health and social care services; and give patients full access to their own electronic health records.

Hunt said in a statement: “I am humbled to be re-appointed health secretary, not least because of the enormous responsibility for hundreds of thousands of doctors, nurses and other NHS staff who are working incredibly hard right now and under enormous pressure.”

He added: “My biggest priority now is to transform care outside hospitals ... All of us want every single older and vulnerable person to be treated with the highest standards of care - so we need a step change in services offered through GP surgeries, community care and social care.”

Whether you’re a healthcare professional working in the NHS, a current or one-time patient, or someone who has something to say about the world’s best healthcare system, we want to hear from you.

What needs to be prioritised for the NHS? Where is it lacking? Do you have any positive experiences of the health service that you think Hunt should hear about? Do you feel passionately about keeping the NHS free at the point of delivery? Perhaps you’d like to tell him what the NHS means to you? Or, if you work in the NHS, what would you like him to know about your job or the system you work in?
