DeAndre Yedlin's Newcastle United future latest as Bruce happy to have competition

Steve Bruce has opened up on the future of DeAndre Yedlin after the American defender put in a fine display in the 7-0 victory at Morecambe.

The former Tottenham Hotspur man is coming towards the end of his contract at Newcastle but has attracted interest from both MLS and clubs in Turkey.

But Bruce has no qualms about him remaining on the books for the rest of the campaign - despite a healthy battle taking place between Javier Manquillo and Sweden international Emil Krafth.

Bruce said: "The most difficult job that I've got is keeping everybody happy.

"Ultimately, we have to make the decision on 22 players. There's the difficult situation itself.

"I am sure that DeAndre wants to play regularly.

"We have three recognised right-backs at the club which is not really that healthy to be honest.

"However, DeAndre is somebody I like, as a pro, as a player."

Yedlin started the game at left-back against the Shrimpers before switching to the opposite flank for the second half.

When asked about the interest in Yedlin - with David Beckham's Inter Miami believed to monitoring his situation - Bruce added: "We will see what happens.

"There'll be a lot of speculation flying around but I have no problem with DeAndre hanging around."

Bruce then played down any suggestion of bad blood between himself and Yedlin.

Bruce said: "He's like a lot of them when they're not involved.

"He just wants to play. I can understand that."
