DeAndre Yedlin reveals true feelings of Newcastle squad's season so far - and confesses to a mistake

Newcastle United's goalscoring hero DeAndre Yedlin says that nobody in the Toon dressing room is surprised by their climb up the Premier League table.

Back-to-back victories have helped United climb to the middle of the pack after a tough start to the campaign and some early reservations from some supporters on Steve Bruce.

But Yedlin has spoken out about expectations within the camp and believes that United are capable of achieving even more this term.

After scoring a headed equaliser in the 2-1 win over AFC Bournemouth, Yedlin said: "Everybody inside the club we was confident.

"Internally we knew what type of squad we had and we weren't letting anything from outside change that.

"I don't think we class this as a surprise.

"We are happy with it but it is only a surprise to some people because we are confident about our ability.

"I don't want to say top 10, I just say go as high as we can. That is the motive.

"We will keep pushing for that."

Yedlin may have netted his first goal ever at St James' Park but confessed to a mistake that had resulted in the Cherries taking the lead.

The American star said: "Every game you want it to be a clean sheet.

"We were upset about the goal we conceded.

"I was supposed to be on Josh King for that one so it was good I scored to make up for it.

"I lost concentration on that but it happens and that's why you have team-mates around you.

"Fortunately we got the win."
