DeAndre Hopkins named Cardinals MVP by local media

The local chapter of the Pro Football Writers of America honors two Arizona Cardinals players each year. One is named the team MVP and the other is honored as the Good Guy for his work with the media.

The MVP award goes to receiver DeAndre Hopkins.

He received the Lloyd Herberg MVP Award. The MVP award was named after Lloyd Herberg, former Cardinals beat writer for the Arizona Republic. Herberg covered the Cardinals from 1988, when the team moved to Arizona, until his death in May of 1994. Herberg fought a courageous battle with cancer.

Hopkins, in his first season with the team has already set a franchise record for receptions with 111 and has added 1,372 yards and six touchdowns. His 1,372 yards with one game to go, ranks 10th in franchise history and he will most likely end up in the top five all-time. He has had seven games of at least 100 receiving yards.

This is Hopkins’ fourth year with 100+ receptions and it is his sixth career 1,000-yard season. He is one of just five players in NFL history with four 100-catch campaigns in their first eight NFL seasons.

He was the obvious choice for this award.
