Dean Windass brands Rangers fans 'ruthless' as he insists empty stands are key to impressive form

Dean Windass insists Rangers are succeeding in the Premiership this season because they don't have any pressure from fans.

The former Aberdeen forward attended Ibrox on a number of occasions during son Josh' time at the club, and was shocked by how angry they could get.

Windass Jnr was at Ibrox during a time they struggled to compete with Celtic and the Sheffield Wednesday forward split supporters right down the middle.

But Dean reckons Rangers fans are 'ruthless' and believes the players on the pitch are being helped by the empty stands, and insists it will help Steven Gerrard's men win the Premiership.

He told the Transfer Tavern: “There’s no pressure on the players because they’re not getting pelters from the stands. I’ve witnessed it when Josh was there and they’re getting beat – they are ruthless.

“So when the supporters are allowed in we’ll see how good they are, like when they got beat by St Mirren, they’d have got absolute pelters from the supporters.

“So then they go into the next game with more pressure on the next game because the supporters have put more pressure on them.

“But there’s no supporters to put pressure on them, so they go out there, there’s no screaming and bawling and getting slagged off.

“So yeah, I expect them to win the league.”
