Dean Henderson is set to miss Manchester United’s training camp in Scotland after Covid-19 left him with a bout of "prolonged fatigue".
The Red Devils have seen their pre-season preparations plunged into chaos after several positive cases were returned at the end of last week.
That caused the friendly with Preston to be postponed, while the outbreak was contained.
A statement was swiftly released by the club, which read: "Maintaining Covid security is a priority for Manchester United.
"Following routine testing of the first-team training group on Thursday, we have identified a small number of suspected positive cases.
"This has led to those people isolating, pending further tests.”
United are now set to go north of the border to continue their build-up to the Premier League season, but will be without goalkeeper Henderson.
The England international will battle it out with David de Gea for the number one jersey next season, after appearing to move beyond the Spaniard in the pecking order last term.
De Gea linked up with the squad on Monday after being given an extended break following Spain’s exploits at Euro 2020.
Tom Heaton has also arrived this summer and will have the opportunity to further his claim for a start when the competitive stuff kicks off in less than two weeks.
Manchester United have confirmed Henderson is still feeling the effects of the virus after contracting it a few weeks ago.
They state that: “Dean Henderson will miss Manchester United’s Scotland training camp while he continues his recovery from prolonged fatigue after contracting a COVID-19 infection three weeks ago.
“He is expected to be training again soon.”
Henderson was forced to withdraw from this summer’s European Championships after he complained of hip pain during England’s training for the tournament.
The 24-year-old has previously admitted that the battle with De Gea had left him both physically and mentally exhausted.
He told talkSPORT: "Listen, after last season, it was very difficult for me. I worked every day, day-in and day-out, I was grinding down to get into that team at Man United.
"I went through every brick wall I could get through, I fought hard and when I got into the team I was shattered, I was exhausted.
"I was mentally tired, I'd done everything right to get into the team, but I'd used up all my energy worrying about getting into the team.
“So when I got into the team I had a good little run and then got injured and then I struggled."
