Dean Henderson set for scan as Crystal Palace injury problems start to mount

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson is set for scans to determine the extent of the injury that wrecked his debut at Manchester United on Tuesday night.

On his first start since joining Palace for £20million from United in the summer, Henderson was forced off after just 19 minutes, as the Eagles crashed out of the Carabao Cup with a 3-0 defeat against his former club.

Henderson had hoped to stake a claim for the Palace No1 spot but was replaced by Sam Johnstone and now faces a spell on the sidelines. Palace manager Roy Hodgson said: “Often we have to wait a day or two before they can even do the scan, so at the moment we just know that he had a very unfortunate end to a game that he was really looking forward to playing.”

Injury problems are growing for Palace, who were already without seven players, including winger Michael Olise and new signings Jefferson Lerma and Matheus Franca.

The injury-hit Eagles produced a disappointing performance last night and return to Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday.

“Unless we can play better, it’s indicative [of what might happen]“, admitted a downbeat Hodgson.
