Dean Henderson sends message after Manchester United training return

Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson says it "feels good" to be back in training after several weeks on the sidelines recovering from coronavirus.

The shot-stopper, who would have hoped have to battled it out with David De Gea at the start of this season for the No.1 spot between the sticks, has been sidelined since the opening stages of pre-season after returning a positive Covid-19 test.

The former Sheffield United goalkeeper, who was forced to pull out of the England squad for the summer's European Championship due to a hip injury, tested positive for the virus during the first week back at United's Carrington training base for pre-season.

Henderson was forced to miss United's pre-season tussles with both Derby County and Queens Park Rangers during his isolation period, but needed even more time to recover once that duration of time was over.

As a result, he was not involved in the matchday squads for the Premier League opening games against Leeds, Southampton and Wolves.

However, in a boost to both himself and United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Henderson has now returned to Carrington to step-up his fitness levels and get himself in the best possible position to challenge De Gea for any opportunities that may come his way.

Delighted to be back training within the first-team environment, Henderson took to Instagram to post a short message.

He said: "Feels good to be back in training," along with five emojis, including a love heart and his trademark of the 'soon on top' slogan.

Having not featured yet this season, the international break most probably came at the ideal time for the 24-year-old, allowing him to build-up his fitness levels whilst not missing any further matches.

With United's busy September schedule poised to kick-off next weekend against Newcastle United, Henderson will be hoping to be in a strong enough condition to make his return to action, with Solskjaer's side soon getting both their UEFA Champions League and Carabao Cup campaigns under way alongside the bread & butter of the Premier League.

In his absence, summer signing Tom Heaton has acted as back-up to De Gea.
