Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson believes Harry Maguire deserves to be classed in the same category as Virgil van Dijk.
Maguire, who is currently the world’s most expensive defender at £80million, played a key role in helping England reach the final of Euro 20202.
The centre-back’s impressive performances at this summer’s competition saw him named in the team of the tournament, alongside team-mates Kyle Walker and Raheem Sterling.
While Van Dijk has been colossal at the back for the Reds since joining from Southampton in January 2018.
Since his arrival at Anfield, Liverpool have won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and their first League Championship for 30 years.
Many in the game view the defender, who has just returned to full training following a serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury sustained in October’s Merseyside derby, as the best in the world.
But Henderson believes Maguire’s consistent form for club and country means he should be ranked alongside Van Dijk.
He told talkSPORT : “How can you doubt Harry Maguire? Nobody can doubt him.
“He plays every single game for Manchester United, the biggest football club in the world and no matter what he gives his best.
“Unfortunately you can’t play outstanding in every game because nobody is perfect, but Harry is a top centre-half.
“I’d put him in the same category as Virgil van Dijk, and I’ll be proven right in the next couple of years, because he’s only going to get better and better.”
