Dean Henderson given Celtic transfer seal of approval as Manchester United raid billed as 'strong statement'

Manchester United prospect Dean Henderson has been tipped for another loan move over the past week.

The Old Trafford backup keeper was retained by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during the summer after a strong spell at Sheffield United last term.

But the 23-year-old remains behind David de Gea in the pecking order, sparking the possibility of another move in January.

Henderson has international ambitions but is unlikely to make Gareth Southgate's England squad sitting on the bench at Man United.

He's been tentatively linked with a switch to Celtic and former Rangers boss Alex McLeish insists it'd be a "strong statement" from the Parkhead side.

Celtic have chopped and changed between the sticks so far this season, with Scott Bain displacing summer signing Vasilis Barkas in recent weeks.

McLeish believes Henderson is a "special" worth considering when the January window rolls around.

He told Football Insider : “Yeah, he’s quite special. From the footage I saw of him from the whole of last season he was at a fabulous level.

“His team actually had a great season built on the back of some fantastic work by him. That’s what they say about a goalkeeper, they can save you, a good club goalie, 10 points a season, an international goalie 15 points a season, a world-class goalie, 20-odd points a season.

“These are the numbers that these goalkeepers, along with the coaches, strive to make and that, for me, would be a very strong statement.”
