Dean Henderson confirms Man Utd decision and anticipates "next chapter" of career

Dean Henderson has confirmed that he won't be returning to Sheffield United for a third loan spell.

The Manchester United goalkeeper has impressed at Bramall Lane in the last two seasons, helping the Blades earn promotion from the Championship and then establishing himself as one of the top stoppers in the Premier League in 2019/20.

The 23-year-old's form coupled with disappointing performances from Old Trafford No.1 David de Gea led to suggestions that the United youth product could replace the Spaniard as the club's first-choice goalkeeper.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted that he will stick by De Gea despite his downturn in form, but Henderson now seems determined to usurp the former Atletico Madrid stopper.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Sheffield United for the last two years," he wrote on social media.

"Winning promotion to the Premier League with my brothers and having the season we had this season is something I will never forget.

"I would like to thank the manager, my teammates, the backroom staff and of course, the fans, who have been unbelievable towards me.

"I will look back at the last two years as an important chapter in my career and more than anything, I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to learn and develop with such a class group of lads.

"I can't wait for the next chapter! Once again, thank you for everything. Once a blade, always a blade."

Henderson - who has 11 England under-21 caps - has also been tipped to challenge Jordan Pickford for the England No.1 shirt.

Sheffield United, meanwhile, are expected to re-sign the Bournemouth goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale as their new No.1.
