Dean Henderson 2017 comments might become a reality after another David De Gea mistake

Dean Henderson could finally fulfill his 2017 prediction if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hands him a start against Newcastle.

After a series of loans the goalkeeper is now competing with David De Gea for a starting spot at Manchester United.

The Spaniard has made a string of costly mistakes over the past few seasons while Henderson has crafted his skill and ability.

Loans at Stockport County, Grimsby Town, Shrewsbury Town and back-to-back spells at Sheffield United have proved incredibly valuable to Henderson.

And it was while he was at Shrewsbury that Henderson made a bold prediction.

"By the time I'm 22 I'll be knocking on the door ready," he told ITV in 2017, as reported in the Manchester Evening News.

"That'll be my sort of time and I'll still be very, very young then. So maybe another year. Maybe 23, a realistic target to go and take that number one spot."

At 23 Henderson has signed a bumper contract at United and made two Carabao Cup appearances - impressing in both.

And he could be about usurp De Gea in the Premier League.

United's No.1 made yet another blunder for Spain, caught out of position and costing his country a Nations League defeat.

Should Solskjaer axe De Gea from United's starting XI on the back of his latest showing then Henderson will finally have fulfilled his prediction.
