'Deal is dead' - Tottenham fans fear the worst after latest Milan Skriniar transfer hint

Tottenham Hotspur fans have been debating what Milan Skriniar's start for Inter Milan means for the club's interest in the player.

With a little over 24 hours to go until the transfer window shuts, the centre-back was named in Inter's starting XI for their game against Lazio.

Some Spurs fans feel this ends any hope the club had of doing a deal for the 25-year-old.

Yet others argued that the decision to start Skriniar could well be a negotiating tactic from Inter.

Spurs remain keen on signing a centre-back before the transfer window shuts on Monday.

Jose Mourinho is keen to strengthen his defence and the Mirror report that Spurs have launched one last push to sign the Slovakian.

Inter's asking price is £45m, which is beyond Tottenham's valuation of the defender, but they continue to try and negotiate.

Juan Foyth has moved on loan to Villarreal in order to free up space in the wage bill whilst Spurs are also looking to offload Danny Rose.

Chelsea's Antonio Rudiger has also been linked with Spurs but AC Milan have now made a bid for the defender.

Yet reports in Italy claim Inter have now decided against selling both Skriniar and former Spurs star Christian Eriksen.

Corriere dello Sport claim that both players will remain at the San Siro for the foreseeable future.

If that is the case, then it could hand Spurs a blow going into the final day of the transfer market.

Spurs' need for a defender was heightened by Foyth's departure and also the summer exit of Jan Vertonghen.
