Deal close for Liverpool talent, Aston Villa product in demand – League One transfer rumours

The transfer deadline is rapidly approaching with little more than a fortnight left for Bristol Rovers and their League One counterparts to do business.

The Gas are "still active" in the transfer market, according to manager Ben Garner, and many of their rivals are still making moves as injuries and weaknesses emerge three weeks into the new season.

Here is a roundup of the transfer talk from across League One.

Hull City close in on Liverpool starlet

Grant McCann’s Hull City are set to sign winger Ben Woodburn on loan from Liverpool, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The Wales international is a highly-rated prospect but has seen his progression hampered by a series of injuries.

He spent last season on loan in League One with Oxford United, where he made 16 appearances across an injury-hit spell.

Woodburn, 20, appeared set for a spell in Holland with Sparta Rotterdam, but talks have stalled and Hull are set to pounce.

Championship interest in star striker

Wimbledon captain Joe Pigott, who has made a flying start to the season, has suitors in the Championship, according to The Mirror.

The 26-year-old scored 18 goals last season and already has netted twice and registered four assists in three League One games this term.

Swansea City and Reading are reportedly interested in signing him for a cut-price fee of £200,000, with Pigott in the final 12 months of his contract.

Aston Villa product in demand

Jake Doyle Hayes left Premier League Aston Villa this summer, but he is not short of options.

Football Insider reports the 21-year-old midfielder, who helped Cheltenham Town to the League Two play-offs while on loan last season, is wanted by Portsmouth and several other League One clubs including Hull City, Blackpool, Doncaster Rovers and MK Dons.

The Republic of Ireland under-21 international made three appearances for Villa after graduating from the youth setup.

MK Dons make £300k offer for striker

MK Dons are pushing to signing Scottish striker Ross Stewart from Ross County.

The 24-year-old has netted 24 goals in 67 games for the Staggies, and the Daily Record reports the Dons have made a £300,000 offer, plus add-ons, to sign him before next Monday’s deadline for cross-border transfers.

But County have set their asking price closer to £1million.

Shrewsbury Town, Fleetwood Town and Sheffield Wednesday are also reportedly keen.
