Deaf Voices celebrates combining sign language with singing in upcoming online performance

Musicians and performers across the board have been impacted severely by Covid-19 restrictions with many not having had the chance to perform for a live audience in well over a year.

This is no different for the Foyle Deaf Association choir 'Deaf Voices'.

The Foyle Deaf Association choir 'Deaf Voices' will perform a selection of their repertoire on Wednesday, September 22, which will be posted to their audience online, using the mediums of Irish Sign Language and British Sign Language.

Deaf Voices combines the art of song and sign language in an amazing and inclusive performance. They have been posting content online during the pandemic much to their audience's delight.

They have a large fan base who enjoy the outstanding and unique talents of Deaf Voices as well as its inclusive nature.

Deaf Voices showcases the talent of its deaf performers and helps to celebrate cultural diversity and inclusiveness across all sectors.

Deaf Voices sign choir was originally set up by committee members of the Foyle Deaf Association.

Drawing from their experience in previous sign language choirs, the group has been performing live and online for the past two years.

They have been heavily impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic denying them the chance to perform to a live audience, but that has not dampened their spirits. Online performances have allowed them to reconnect with their fans.

The choir uses backing tracks or collaborates with signing choirs to perform their repertoire through the mediums of Irish and British sign languages.

Both Deaf and hearing audiences enjoy to watch the choir that has something for everyone.

Performances have been limited during the Covid-19 pandemic but Deaf Voices continue to rehearse and perform in the online space and are ready for live performances as soon as possible.

Deaf Voices are keen to get back performing live to welcoming audiences soon, bringing an inclusive sound back to the stage.
