HBO has released a first look at Deadwood: The Movie.
The film will take place ten years after the final season, which premiered in 2006, with the trailer offering a look at Ian McShane’s Al Swearengen, Timothy Olyphant’s Sheriff Seth Bullock, Paula Malcomson’s Trixie, Molly Parker’s Alma Ellsworth, John Hawkes’s Sol Star, Kim Dickens’s Joanie Stubbs, and Robin Weigert’s Calamity Jane.
McShane told Deadline about the revival: “Deadwood is celebrating South Dakota as a state, and Hearst has come back and Alma has come back in town, so you have all the main characters converging and how they changed in ten years. Now Hearst wants to put telegraphs in town, which isn’t going too well. Al has had a little bit too much of that over the years. There’s a surprise for Trixie and Star.”
“It ends leaving you wondering,” he added. “If it makes $115M, HBO will somehow find a way to do another one.”
