This holiday weekend brought deadly weather across the country, heartbreak, and destruction to the central U.S., with the threat moving to the East Coast today. The systems that spawned dozens of deadly tornadoes and reports on Sunday, including one in Eddyville, Kentucky, resulted in at least 21 fatalities across four states.

One woman, who sought shelter before and after a devastating storm in 2021, expressed her anguish, stating, 'It's awful, lost everything, but at least my dog's okay, my husband's okay.' The storm's impact was widespread, downing trees and knocking out power for hundreds of thousands.

Sunday marked the most active severe storm day yet in what has been a remarkably active season. The Storm Prediction Center documented over 620 reports of severe weather from Wyoming to New Hampshire.

Valley View, Texas, hit hard with seven fatalities, including four children.

Valley View, Texas, located an hour north of Dallas, was among the hardest-hit areas. A suspected tornado claimed the lives of two children and their mother. The National Weather Service confirmed the tornado as an EF2 with winds of 135 MPH, explaining the devastating destruction witnessed in the subdivision.

Emergency officials reported seven fatalities in the area, including four children. The aftermath left a trail of demolished homes and vehicles, with families left to grapple with the devastation.

Approximately 100 individuals sustained injuries, with a convenience store along Interstate 35 collapsing as over 100 people sought refuge from the storm.

In the scorching heat, families are now faced with the daunting task of cleaning up the debris and salvaging what remains of their belongings. The urgent needs include temporary shelter and clothing for those affected, as efforts are underway to provide support and aid in the rebuilding process.

The Red Cross highlighted the extensive path of destruction, estimating it to span 150 to 250 miles throughout North Texas, underscoring the intensity and widespread impact of the storm system.
