A heartbroken person has told of their horror after their small puppy was killed in an alleged hit-and-run in north county Dublin.
The owner's small Cavilier King Charles was reportedly mowed down by a "speeding car" in a Swords estate filled with young kids playing just before 8pm on Sunday.
Shockingly, the vehicle was gone from the Castleview Avenue area before the Dubliner was able to get its details as their dog sadly died on the road where flowers were placed by locals on Monday.
It is understood that the King Charles got away from his owner in the Castleview Grove as they attempted to put his lead on for a walk.
A local neighbourhood watch group has urged anyone with information to come forward.
It said: "Sadly a small Cavilier King Charles was knocked down and killed by a speeding car on the lower end of Castleview Avenue on Sunday evening after 7.30pm.
"He unfortunately got away from the owner in Castleview Grove as he was about to set off for a walk.
"The car was gone up the Avenue before the owner could get details.
"If anyone witnessed the incident or has anything on CCTV, can you please come forward."

One local said it could have been a child that was hit adding: "Oh god, I saw flowers placed there today. Poor doggy and their family. It's just at the ramp too so just goes to show they don't slow the car down enough."
A second added: "It's a joke how many cars speed in the estate day in and day out. Was out walking with the kids tonight and two came flying down through the estate."
