Deadline to apply to vote by post or proxy in council elections is fast approaching

The deadline for applying to vote via post or proxy at the Scottish Local elections is in two weeks.

If you are planning on making a new application for a postal or proxy vote or to make any changes to existing arrangements, you have until 5pm on April 19.

If you have already applied for a postal vote, your postal pack which includes the ballot paper, postal voting statement and return envelopes will be sent out to the address you have requested.

Returning Officer Cleland Sneddon told Lanarkshire Live : “It’s important to remember that if you choose to vote by post you will not be able to vote at a polling station.

“However, it is possible to hand your completed postal pack into a polling station within the South Lanarkshire area if you are unable to post it back in time.

“If you can’t go to the polling station and don’t wish to vote by post, you can appoint someone you trust to vote on your behalf (a proxy).”

All the details on postal and proxy voting can be found here.
