Deadline for Kentucky flood survivors to register for FEMA aid is approaching

The deadline for eastern Kentuckians to apply for individual assistance for flood recovery is approaching. Flood survivors have until September 28th to apply to the Federal Emergency Management Agency for assistance.

Nate Custer is a spokesman for FEMA. He said the money people can receive from the organization goes beyond simple home repairs.

“That’s money to repair uninsured or under-insured primary residences, repairs to the utilities to those homes, repairing bridges or other infrastructure that leads to this disaster damaged property.”

He said there are a few ways people can register.

“If you can get online go to disasterassistance.gov, that’s disaster assistance-dot-g-o-v. or go to one of the eight disaster recovery centers that we have open in almost all of the counties where this disaster declaration applies.”

Custer said eastern Kentuckians can also call FEMA’s 1-800-number. He added that more than 7400 homeowners and renters have received FEMA financial assistance. That adds up to more than $67 million dollars going to eastern Kentucky flood survivors.

Custer said the September 28th deadline is for individual assistance. Public assistance deadlines for most counties have been extended into October.
