Dead whale washes up near Humber bridge in Hull after getting stranded

A dead whale has been discovered in Hull after getting stranded.

The Hull coastguard team were called after the creature was discovered today close to Barrow Haven on the south bank, reports Hull Live .

A picture posted by Hull Coastguard Rescue Team on Facebook show the animal on its side.

A post read: "Paged to reports of stranded cetacean near Barrow Haven.

"On arrival the team observed a minke whale of approximately 3.5m in length on its side, sadly determined to be deceased.

"National History Museum informed (as they often want to attend to obtain samples) and the Receiver of Wrecks.

"Stood down and returned to station."

The creature was pictured on its side on a sandbank but was determined to be dead upon the team's arrival (hulldailymail.co.uk)

The team also urged members of the public to report any stranded whales, dolphins or porpoises by calling 999 and asking for the Coastguard or British Divers Marine Life Rescue on 01825 765546.

It added: "Should you spot what you think is this same animal in the next few days at a different location, please call anyway as we need to take further details off it and inform the Natural History Museum of its new location. Plus, it may not be the same one!"
