Dead Space remake gets first-ever gameplay trailer

After several months of quiet teasing, Electronic Arts (EA) has finally shown off the Dead Space remake properly — and boy, does it ever look sick.

On Tuesday, EA released the first gameplay trailer for Dead Space. It opens with an emergency response team responding to a distress call from the USG Ishimura, and protagonist Isaac Clarke quickly learns that this spaceship’s corridors are overflowing with undead monstrosities. Afterwards, we can see several iconic moments from Dead Space recreated with beautiful 4K assets on EA’s Frostbite engine.

Check out the trailer for yourself below. Be warned: it’s pretty gruesome, so maybe don’t watch this in the office.

Most of the gameplay highlights dismemberment, which is an integral part of Dead Space. There’s no shoot-them-in-the-head solution here, oh no – defeating enemies means you’ll have to blast and cut limbs off until your foes are nothing but lifeless torsos on the floor. Yeah, it’s gross, but these mechanics are what made Dead Space a survival horror classic.

The Dead Space remake is coming out on Jan. 27, 2023, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. EA Motive, the studio responsible for this gnarly reimagining, is also working on an Iron Man video game.
