Dead rat on pavement and fish on a doorstep pictured on rubbish strewn Glasgow street

Fuming locals in Glasgow are being forced to live on a rubbish-strewn street with a rotting rat, fish and assorted litter left strewn across their residential road.

The decomposing fish and rats were spotted outside 138-140 Royston Road in the Royston area of the city.

Local shops and takeaways sit near the littered area which is covered in piles of rubbish. The rubbish-strewn street look like something seen in a slum in a Third World country.

One doorstep even had a dead fish left lying on the doorstep.

Former Labour MP Paul Sweeney, hit out at the disgusting images which he shared on social media.

Sweeney wrote on Twitter: "Report of major littering issue at 138-140 Royston Road.

"If this could be dealt with please."

The ex-MP tagged Glasgow City Council (GCC) and labour councillor for Dennistoun, Elaine McDougall.

A GCC representative responded: "Hi Paul, I have logged a request to get the dead animals removed, and another one to attend to the littering and fly-tipping.

"Thanks for reporting."

Meanwhile Councillor McDougall said: "Hi Paul, I'm on the case."

We recently told of the bombshell stats that show the rising rat problems in North Lanarkshire since the council introduced changes to bin collections.

Grim pics of a drowned rat in a hot tub revealed the extent of a rodent infestation causing misery in the area.

Last month refuse workers in Glasgow hit out at their working conditions after sharing a video of a disgusting rat-infested bin area in the Govanhill area.

The video showed a number of the rodents running around half-eaten food and broken bin bags during a visit from waste disposal staff in the residential area.

And in September last year we showed video of rats scurrying around streets in the Garnethill area of Glasgow in broad daylight.
