Dead puppy found bleeding and buried in shallow grave

A dead puppy was found buried in a shallow grave in a field, bleeding from its nose and mouth.

The RSPCA is appealing for information after the three month old shepherd-type dog was discovered in Wallasey .

The puppy was discovered by a dog walker at a field off Oakdale Road in August.

CCTV recovered by the organisation captured a man in the field on August 18, the day the discovery was made.

RSPCA inspector Anthony Joynes said: “It is very concerning that a young dog was found dead in such a public place.

"At this stage we don’t know how the dog died and we are keen to find out more around the circumstances of his death as there were no obvious external wounds.

"However we are concerned given that there was blood coming from the dog’s nose and mouth.

"The field is a popular dog-walking spot so we are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious on the day the dog was found."

The CCTV footage, captured at 2pm, is not clear enough to give an identification of the male.

Insp Joynes said: "What we do know is that the man in the CCTV appears to be a white male in 30s, approx 6ft tall  and was wearing a black baseball cap, green fleece and blue jeans.

"A member of the public spoke to the man who said that the dog died overnight, and when it was mentioned that they would call the police he walked away.

"We are urging anyone who recognises the dog, or who may have bred the dog, to get in touch with us in complete confidence on 0300 123 8018, so we can find out what happened."
