Dead man banned from his own funeral after family take him to church without coffin

A dead man was refused entry to his own funeral because he did not arrive in a coffin.

Che Lewis, 29, and his dad Adlay Lewis, 54, were to be laid to rest together after they were shot and killed at their Port of Spain home in Trinidad and Tobago.

The November 25 funeral received a lot of attention as it was streamed online.

Che’s body was reportedly driven to the church in the seated position on a roofless hearse so onlookers could see.

Videos circulating on social media show Che’s corpse sat on the chair dressed in white trousers and a pink jacket outside the St John the Evangelist Church.

It appears that people do not realise that he is the deceased instead of someone attending the funeral.

Some even berated the lifeless man for not wearing a face mask.

Upon arrival at the church, Che was reportedly denied access by staff members who were astonished by what they saw.

Unlike Che, the family had placed Aldlay inside a coffin.

After the funeral service, the father and son were eventually buried in the St John the Evangelist Cemetery.

Police Officer Brent Batson told local media outlet Trinidad Express: "We are disappointed in the reckless behaviour engaged by Dennie's Funeral Home.

"Carrying persons in a dangerous manner is an offence with a £750 penalty and the police will continue the investigation into the funeral company's conduct on the road."

Che’s brother Abisaja John, 45, was also shot dead in their family home on 24 July this year.
