Dead humpback whale washes up on East Lothian beach

A dead humpback whale has washed up on a Scottish beach.

The huge animal was found on John Muir Country Park in Dunbar this morning.

East Lothian Council are warning locals to avoid the area while arrangements are made to have it removed.

Posting on Twitter , East Lothian Council wrote: "Unfortunately a dead humpback whale has washed up at John Muir Country Park, Dunbar.

"Arrangements are being made to remove the whale and people are being advised to keep their distance from the site."

The council's Countryside Raiders added that although people may be keen to catch a glimpse, they should keep a safe distance.

They wrote: "Unfortunately there is a dead humpback whale at Tyninghame. Whilst we appreciate people are interested to see it we do ask that you stay back from the carcass for health and safety reasons.

"We are aiming to remove it from the beach later this evening."
