Dead dolphin found washed up on Ayrshire beach

A dead dolphin was found washed up on Ayr beach at the weekend.

The cetacean was discovered at the Ayrshire beauty spot on Sunday afternoon near to the beach park.

The five-foot long sea creature was found by Ian Mcfadzean who said he'd never encountered anything like it before.

Missing an eye, the sorry dolphin looked to be in a state of necrosis as it lay beached on the popular stretch of sand.

A debate online had suggested the mammal washed up in Ayr was a porpoise but the sharp teeth and long beak or nose would suggest the animal is a dolphin.

Dolphins are a regular fixture in the waters around the west coast of Scotland and have been spotted breaching the water in the summer months.
