A dog was tragically discovered dead inside a pub that was made the target of an armed robbery.
A group of thugs armed with a hammer and a knife stormed into the pub and threatened the terrified punters inside on July 13.
Among those terrorised was a man and two women, one being in their 20s and the other in their 30s.
According to Liverpool Echo, the man was injured when one of the robbers plunged a knife through the letterbox while attempting to gain entry to the rear of the establishment.
After intimidating the customers inside, the armed men stole some cash and alcohol before making off with the goods.
Following Tuesday's terrifying robbery at the Queens Arms Pub in Wallasey, Merseyside Police have confirmed that a dog was found to have died inside the pub.
The cause of the dog's death is not yet known.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm that a dog was found dead inside the property, but it was not dead as a result of the robbery."
Officers from the RSPCA also attended the pub following the dog's discovery.
A spokesperson for the animal charity said: “We attended the Queens Arms pub yesterday after Merseyside police informed us about a dog which had sadly been found dead at the property.
“We have taken the body away to have a post mortem carried out to ascertain the cause of death.
“We will be working with the police as enquiries continue.”
An investigation into the armed robber is now underway and anyone with information is urged to come forward and contact police.
CCTV, forensic and house-to-house enquiries are being carried out in the area in the hopes of identifying the men involved.
Detective Inspector Darren Taylor said: "We would appeal to anyone who was in the Liscard Village area at around 11.30pm on Tuesday night or saw anyone or anything suspicious to contact us.
"They may have information which is vital to our investigation.
"I would also ask anyone who was in the area and mobile phone, dash cam or CCTV footage to contact us as they may be able to assist with our enquiries."
