'Dead dog' found on M1 following lane closure between junction 26 and 27

Following reports of an animal in the road, a dead dog has been recovered from the M1.

Highways England said they had received several reports of a dog on the motorway around midday on Tuesday, March 26.

The stretch between junction 26, for Nuthall and junction 27 for Mansfield on the M1 heading south was partially blocked in both directions due to the incident.

The dog was then located at around 12.30pm.

A spokeswoman for Highways England said:

"A dead dog was found at the side of the carriageway. It was not know if it had been involved in a collision with a vehicle.

"After the report of the animal was made, Highways England officials went out to the scene to retrieve the animal’s body."

The spokeswoman told DerbyshireLive that no lanes had been closed and there were no delays as a result of the incident.
