Dead dog found dumped in bin at Scots cemetery as probe launched

Animal welfare chiefs have launched a probe after a dead dog was found dumped in a bin in a Scots graveyard.

A 'very distressed' bypasser made the grim discovery of the female terrie r in the bin at the Cemetery Lodge on Howe Road in Kilsyth on Monday.

The Scottish SPCA are now looking to trace the owner of the cream-coloured animal, who was not microchipped, warning it 'is not the proper way' to dispose of a deceased animal.

The charity has urged anyone with information to come forward.,

A statement read: "We are appealing for information after the body of a dog was found at Cemetery Lodge, Howe Road, Kilsyth on Monday 16 August.

"We were alerted to the incident after a member of the public found the deceased female dog in a bin."

Scottish SPCA inspector Robyn Myszor added the dog was an 'older female' likely a Lhasa apso or similar small terrier type.

She said: “This was a very distressing incident for the person who found this dog.

“The dog was dumped some time between late evening on Saturday 14 August and 3pm on Monday 16 August.

“The dog is an older female and we think is a Lhasa apso or similar small terrier type. She is cream in colour and was not microchipped or wearing a collar when she was found.

“We’d like to find the owner of this dog and find out how she came to be in the bin at the cemetery. This is not the proper way to dispose of the body of an animal who has passed away.

“If anyone has any information on this incident they can contact our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
