Dead: Dodge Hornet

THE BREAKDOWN:

  • Dodge has ended Hornet production.
  • Dodge paused 2026 Hornet production last summer due to the US’s new tariffs.
  • The Hornet had its best sales year in 2024, with 20,559 crossovers sold.

Dodge has discontinued production of the Hornet SUV. The compact crossover first went on sale in 2023 as a competitor to the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Chevrolet Equinox. Now, after just three years on sale, Dodge is pulling the plug on its underwhelming SUV.

Motor1 has reached out to Dodge to confirm the news and will update the story when we hear back. In a statement to CarBuzz, the automaker said:

"Production of the Dodge Hornet, built in Italy, has ended due to shifts in the policy environment. Dodge is committed to ensuring Dodge Hornet owners continue to receive customer support, service, warranty coverage, and sustained parts supply."

Dodge paused 2026 Hornet production last July in response to new tariffs, and it was unclear at the time if production would even restart. Stellantis builds the Dodge alongside the nearly identical Alfa Romeo Tonale in Italy, but as far as we know, the Tonale remains in production.

The Hornet debuted in August 2022 with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a 1.3-liter hybrid four-cylinder. The turbocharged engine produced 265 horsepower and 295 pound-feet while the hybrid made 285 hp and 383 lb-ft.

The Hornet had its best sales year in 2024, with 20,559 units sold. Dodge sold 9,336 Hornets in 2023 and 9,365 in 2025, totaling just under 40,000 units. For what it's worth, Toyota sold 12 times as many RAV4s in 2025.

Motor1’s Take: The Hornet’s untimely demise doesn’t come as a shock—sales for the compact crossover have been abysmal, and the US’s new tariffs last year made selling it here even more challenging. It makes sense that Dodge would kill off the model while Alfa Romeo continues to sell the Tonale.
