Dead deer found in Bristol residential area

WARNING: This article contains an image some readers may find distressing

Residents of a Bristol street woke up on Friday morning to find a dead deer on the street in the part of the city they are rarely seen.

Tim Newton, of Leonard Road, Redfield near Church Road, said they were woken up in the middle of the night by loud animal sounds.

The resident said he looked outside and wasn't able to see anything but in the morning, when he took the bins outside, he found a dead juvenile deer on the pavement.

Mr Newton said: "There was fur everywhere and it looked liked it had been attacked by something.

"We don't know exactly what happened, but we don't think it was hit by a car."

The resident said that, when the dead animal was picked up by the council, they were told they sometimes had to collect dead deer - but not in that part of the city.

Mr Newton added his understanding was the animal was a juvenile muntjac.

He continued: "They [the council staff] were surprised to see one in this area and some people have suggested animals may be more adventurous now because there are fewer people about.

"It is certainly bizarre for it to be in the area, we hadn't seen one before.

"There are a few parks around here, but they are not the sort of place where you see deers.

"This is certainly not the typical deer territory."
