Dead body found in camper van outside Loughor lifeboat station was missing man from Flintshire

A man whose body had been found in a camper van by a Welsh lifeboat station had been reported missing to police.

Kevin Courtney was found dead after officers were called to Loughor lifeboat station on the afternoon of Sunday, January 12.

An inquest into his death was opened at Swansea Civic Centre, where coroner’s officer Howard Davies told the hearing the cause of death of the 46-year-old, of Heol-y-Ddol in Mostyn, Flintshire, had also yet to be concluded.

Mr Davies said: “It appears Mr Courtney had been a missing person and was eventually found there [in Loughor].

“His identification and post mortem has taken place at Morriston Hospital."

He added the identification of the cause of death was pending toxicology and histology reports.

Acting senior coroner for Swansea and Neath Port Talbot Colin Phillips said: “It appears the cause of death has yet to be ascertained”.

The hearing was adjourned until July 28, for the completion of full police and medical reports.

Police, who heard reports the caravan Mr Courtney has been found in had been parked at its location since December 22, are not treating his death as suspicious.

Dyfed-Powys Police said Mr Courtney had been reported missing to them on December 20, but received a report that he had been found "safe and well" the following morning.

North Wales Police has been asked for comment.
