Dead baby found in toilet on American Airlines plane at LaGuardia

NEW YORK _ Workers found a dead newborn baby in a toilet on a plane at LaGuardia Airport early Tuesday, officials and sources said.

The infant appeared to have been born about three months prematurely. The tiny body was found about 6 a.m. in a toilet on American Airlines flight 1942 out of Charlotte, N.C., sources said.

The Airbus A321 was just outside a hanger at the time of the discovery, the sources said. The plane had arrived at LaGuardia at 10:44 p.m. Monday.

"As we continue to learn more about this tragic and sensitive situation we are actively cooperating with law enforcement in its investigation," the airline said in a statement.

Port Authority police and Queens prosecutors are investigating.

The plane was not scheduled to depart LaGuardia again until Wednesday morning, records show.

The city Medical Examiner transported the baby to the Queens morgue, sources said.
