De Pasquale keen for Supercars green light

Having hit top form at the back of his first Supercars season with Shell V-Power Racing, it's no wonder Anton De Pasquale can't wait to get on track in 2022.

De Pasquale finished sixth on the championship standings in 2021 but showed how well he is settling in to life at the Ford powerhouse with five of his six race wins coming in the four consecutive events at Sydney Motorsport Park at the back end of the COVID-19 disrupted campaign.

The 26-year-old also ended the year with a season-high 11 pole positions, indicating he'll be one of the main rivals to defending champion Shane Van Gisbergen this year.

"We built and built as the year goes on, which was always sort of what we thought would happen and what makes sense being at a new team," De Pasquale told AAP.

"Hopefully we take that into this year and just keep stepping up, keep getting better and better.

"We had a good sort of back end of last year, (but) we had a few up and downs the whole way through the year.

"I'm pretty excited to get back into it. Doing everything for a second time rather than the first time and all that stuff."

The postponement of the Newcastle 500 in January means this year's title race starts back at Sydney Motorsport Park on March 4 to 6, not that De Pasquale believes a return to the track where had so much success at the end of 2021 gives him any extra edge.

"Obviously going to Sydney we have a pretty good base of what we think works," he said.

"I mean, everyone, I think has an idea now after four weeks there so we'll see how that rolls out and see what momentum we get from that and roll on."
