Eyebrows were raised a month ago when it was first suggested that Robert de Niro was negotiating to buy the New York Observer. The highbrow Manhattan weekly is owned by millionaire Arthur Carter, who hasn't seemed to mind that it has never made any money since its 1987 launch. Latest reports suggest that he is close to selling to de Niro and his collaborators - film producer Jane Rosenthal and her husband Craig Hatkoff. The trio's first business venture was the TriBeCa Film Centre and Festival in 1990. (Via nymetro.com)
