De Mamiel Autumn Facial Oil review: Annabel Rivkin's new skin saviour

De Mamiel Autumn Facial Oil

Is your skin confused?

Mine is. Is it hot? Is it cold? Heating or no heating? Am I consumptively pale or ruddily inflamed? Is my skin congested and oily or dry and parched? Or is it both? At the same time? Which doesn’t seem fair, does it?

And what about your mood? Are you drowsily replete post-summer, like a sleepy wasp? Are you anxious and adrenalised? Or do you not even know? It’s all so confusing. Was it always this confusing?

Well here’s a little drop of wonder to help ease you and your skin through. De Mamiel’s Autumn Facial Oil is the latest incarnation of its famous seasonal oils; newly formulated each year. It is a fusion of plant oils designed to decongest and calm the skin; to ease us towards the long cold nights to come.

Firstly, it smells amazing and, indeed, they recommend you take a moment for some slow, deep breaths. I loathe ritual but even I don’t mind this and it might make me a fraction less cross. Seed oils nourish and hydrate, sandalwood rejuvenates, geranium balances, and it is pumped with mysterious handmade flower essences to boost your mood.

This is a beautifully healing aromatic oil and my indignant complexion has taken the hint and calmed the hell down. On bad days I mix a mask from De Mamiel Skin Recovery Blend (£95; a pressed serum in a pot) with the oil, slap it on, go to bed and hope everything will be better by morning. Generally, it is.
