De-ice your windscreen FAST with a homemade solution

Winter driving is full of perils - from ice on the road, to heavy rain-based visibility issues - so the last thing you need is to be slowed down by is an iced-up windscreen.

We've all been there - you run out in the morning, thinking you've timed your commute perfectly to beat the traffic, only to discover you'll be held back by 10 minutes of windscreen de-icing before heading off.

This cheap homemade solution could put an end to all that and allow you to get on with your morning quickly and ice-free.

It's been created by appropriately named American meteorologist Ken Weathers.

Weathers suggests mixing 1/3 cup of water with a 2/3 of a cup of rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle and your very own DIY de-icer should speedily defrost car windows for a fraction of the price.

As temperatures plummet this winter, it won't hurt to try - and if it means even a few extra snores under the covers, it's more than worth the effort.
