DE Everson Griffen restructures deal with Vikings

The question we asked earlier on Thursday has been answered.

Defensive end Everson Griffen will restructure his contract and will stay with the Vikings, per multiple reports.

According to ESPN’s Courtney Cronin, Griffen was scheduled to make a base salary of $10.9 million this season. That number will now be $6.4 million, with weekly roster bonuses increasing by $1 million apiece.

Griffen’s cap number lowers from about $11.7 million to $7.4 million, per ESPN’s Field Yates.

That should put the Vikings’ cap room somewhere around $6.6 million.

Up to this point, Griffen has made more than $48 million in his career.

Griffen, 31, appeared in 11 games last season and had 5.5 sacks, his lowest since the 2013 season. With that being said, he was dealing with some personal issues and seems to be a much better place.

He’s just two years removed from a career-high 13 sacks, and he made the Pro Bowl from 2015-2017. His 66.5 career sacks rank fourth in team history.

With Griffen and Danielle Hunter, the Vikings have one of the better one-two punches at defensive end in the NFL.
