Dublin University plummets down world rankings dropping 51 places

A Dublin University has plummeted down the QS World University Rankings.

Dublin City University dropped 51 places in the past year, now ranked in 258th out of 1300 universities worldwide.

The university is now ranked significantly lower than Trinity and UCD.

Trinity College came out on top out of Dublin and Irish universities, placing 101st, their rank unchanged from last year.

University College Dublin has climbed up four places, taking the 173rd spot and becoming the only Irish college to improve their rank.

The rankings went live last night just as Irish sixth year students got ready to start their leaving cert exams.

A record of 84,000 applications have been made to the CAO for the 2021/2022 academic year.

The extra applicants may end up causing points to skyrocket and make it more competitive for students to get the course of their choice.

Colleges have added an extra 3,000 places to offer first year students in the autumn to help combat this.
