DCU and Na Fianna announce first ever GAA club-college comminuty partnership

DCU and Na Fianna have announced the first GAA club-college comminuty partnership in the country today, with the Glasnevin club set to benefit from the universities' facilities.

The Mobhi Road club will have access to the DCU St Claire's facilities - used by the Dublin Senior football team - and will benefit from educational programmes, as well as carrying the DCU crest on the jersey.

Colleges and clubs teaming up has become commonplace in soccer in recent years, with DCU themselves adding Na Fianna to an existing partnership with Shelbourne FC down the road in Drumcondra.

"This is a historic development, being the first ever strategic partnership between a university and a GAA Club," said DCU President Brian MacCraith.

"This new community partnership underlines DCU’s strong commitment to engagement with our community in areas of importance to the university, such as sport, arts and culture, agus an Ghaeilge.

"This is very much a mutually beneficial agreement. DCU is delighted to share its facilities and expertise with Na Fianna, while the club is offering our students valuable volunteering, internship and cultural opportunities."
