Sept. 23--The Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) has announced the winter and spring season of theater and dance performances.
First up is "Buffer Overrun" (Feb. 5 -- 7) by Ginger Krebs at the Storefront Theater, 66 E. Randolph St. The movement piece asks how the perception of space is influenced by technology through loops, patterns and rewinds.
Teatro Vista's "Where Did We Sit on the Bus?" (March 10 -- April 10) follows at the Storefront Theater. Brian Quijada's autobiographical hip-hop play begins with a Latino boy asking where he fits into the famous Rosa Parks narrative.
"Ma(s)king Her" (April 14 -- 16) by Honey Pot Performance is next up at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park. The multidisciplinary performance combines black feminist thought with surrealism to address the absence of empowered women of color in fiction.
Antibody Corporation follows with "Versus" (April 28 -- 30) at the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 W. Washington St. Adam Rose choreographs an experimental piece inspired by oppositional forces.
Then comes "RockCitizen" (May 5 -- 15) by The Seldoms at the Storefront Theater, a 60s-inspired challenge of counterculture.
"The Cure," (June 3 -- 18) Walkabout Theater's latest devised piece, then opens at the Chicago Cultural Center. A series of performances set in a decaying greenhouse explore mortality, disease and violence.
The season closes out with Ian Belknap's "Bucket of Shut Up" at the Storefront Theater, a game show-theater hybrid featuring a very angry man.
Also included in the season are showcases of new work "OnEdge" (Feb. 19 -- March 4) and "Spartan Workshop" (May 28 -- June 26).
