Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers held their nerves when Delhi Capitals were in control of their run-chase to eke out a nine-run win in their IPL 2023 match in Delhi on Saturday, and the SRH skipper Aiden Markram credited it to "team effort".
Abhishek Sharma's 36-ball 67 and Heinrich Klaasen's 53 not out off 27 balls helped SRH post 197/6 despite DC all-rounder Mitchell Marsh's 4/27. The Delhi run-chase was on course until opener Philip Salt (59) and Marsh (63) were together, before falling short in the back end of their innings.
"Great team effort, good to see the guys show good skills and character," said SRH skipper Markram after the match.
"I don't mind getting things wrong (referring to the partnership between Salt and Marsh) if the approach is right. It helps to see such performances...Credit to the way the team has responded."
He also had a word of praise for fellow South African Klaasen.
"Klassy has been in great form, and Abhishek did the hard work early on. Klassy backs himself to play that way, good to see it pay off."
Markram said Markande's catch to dismiss Salt turned the game around.
"We needed wickets to get back in the game. The two (Philip Salt and Mitchell Marsh) were doing well and it needed a special catch from Mayank (Markande).
"Fortunately, the ball was stopping a bit and the bowlers showed great character to execute their spoils. This win will give great confidence. Now we travel back home and (will) try to build on this," Markram concluded.
