DC Patrick Graham: Dolphins Will Run “Multiple” Schemes

This morning, Coach Brian Flores’ new coaching staff met with the Miami media. The opportunity to hear from so many new faces is a welcomed one for Dolphins fans as things are settling into place for the new regime.

Coach Flores has experience on all fronts in the professional football realm, but he came to the Dolphins hot off the heels of his Patriots defense smothering the Los Angeles Rams en route to yet another Super Bowl victory for that team up north.

And when Flores was pressed by the media in his introductory press conference on what kinds of philosophies the team could expect to see carried over from his stint in New England, Flores did not offer much.

We finally have some perspective on what future renditions of the Dolphins defense will look like, courtesy of new Defensive Coordinator Patrick Graham.

This should not be too much of a surprise, given the Patriots’ enviable ability to be a chameleon to their opponents, never quite replicating the same game plan on a week-to-week basis. Or even from year to year.

It’s a great first step. Good coaching is finding that balance between sticking to your player’s strengths and dictating the game by getting the opposition to do what you want.

Miami’s defensive personnel could easily transition into 3-4 looks with just a few pieces. And Graham left a few breadcrumbs in today’s meeting that may dictate what those additions look like.

Heavy handed defenders to reset the line of scrimmage are something Miami already has on the interior (Vincent Taylor and Davon Godchaux) but these qualifications will certainly put the Dolphins in the market for some additional talent on the defensive front and off the edge.
